Dry Shampoo

I try to wash my hair every few days to keep my hair’s natural oils working and healthy. When you take a break in between washing, it gives your scalp a chance to balance out the natural oils it produces. Shampooing every day can actually really dry your hair out (because of the chemicals in it!). But, washing my hair less means I need dry shampoo  – not everyday, but occasionally.

Most dry shampoos will have Fragrance and/or Parfum as an ingredient. Fragrance can be any combination of 3,000 different chemicals that they don’t have to actually list out or tell you what they are. I’m sorry, but that is SCARY!

If you currently use a dry shampoo, take a look at the ingredients on the back (or Google the brand you use to to find a list of ingredients) and look into those ingredients. I’m not interested in using products that have potentially harmful ingredients. So I’ve been trying to make my own dry shampoo as much as possible.

PRO TIP (for a Container): If you shop at Trader Joe’s – the “Everything But the Bagel” jar is nice, but the holes are too big! I used this my first time making it and basically dumped a bunch on my head and got a bunch under my nails every time I itched my head. If you do use the “Everything but the Bagel” jar, just put some into your hands and then onto your hair – don’t dump directly on your head.  “Everything But the Elote” seasoning has smaller holes that work much better!!
